About

Kajukenbo was founded in 1947 in the Palama Settlement on Oahu, Hawaii by 5 martial artists with different backgrounds who met to train and learn from each other. It is considered America’s first mixed martial art and is a combination of Karate, Judo and Jujitsu, Kenpo, and Boxing. This unique style covers all ranges of self-defense (standing, clinch, and ground) by incorporating strikes, takedowns, joint-locks and weapons disarming to form a practical and efficient self-defense system that anyone can learn.

Submission grappling encompasses arts such as Judo, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ), and Wrestling. All are complimentary grappling arts that teach that a smaller person can successfully defend themselves against a stronger, heavier opponent by using leverage and gaining control of the other person with the use of take-downs, pins, joint locks, and chokes.
